Material Madness
Material Madness brings together four women artists who each explore sculpture and spatial interaction in unconventional ways. Their works challenge traditional mediums like marble, plaster, and bronze, opting instead for materials such as fiberglass, aluminum, silk, honey, and porcelain. These choices invite viewers to engage with the artworks physically and intellectually, emphasizing themes like environmental dystopia, social dynamics, myths, women's histories, femininity, and the body.
Each sculpture in Material Madness stands as an individual form with its own narrative about family, society, and identity formation within a social context. Mille Kalsmose strikes a balance between the universal and the personal in her exploration of human relationships and introspection. Her sculptures transcend mere aesthetics, inviting viewers from diverse cultural backgrounds to contemplate both external connections and internal dialogues.
Material Madness celebrates the fusion of physical and intellectual materials in art, reflecting contemporary themes and issues. It showcases artworks that not only engage with the tangible materials used in their creation but also embody a deeper knowledge of our current societal concerns and personal introspections.
